AB530 expands the annual fuel-tax authority for the larger Nevada counties — Clark County included. Every penny on a gallon of diesel is a penny on a gallon of milk by the time the truck reaches the Smith’s distribution center on Pecos Road. Every penny on the milk is a household-budget tax on the families I knock doors for every Saturday.
Cost-of-living pressure is the single most-mentioned issue at every door I walk in Spring Valley, Mountain’s Edge, and the southwest of AD-42. The job of a state legislator is not to make that pressure worse on the families who already cannot keep up with it. The job is to find the spending we can actually cut and to leave the family budget alone.
I will oppose every additional fuel-tax authority and I will sponsor a Family Affordability Index — a transparent annual measure of how much new state action has added to a Nevada family’s grocery and gasoline costs, by name and by bill.
