A cardiac surgeon on metabolic health

Dr. Philip Ovadia and Chris Brandlin talk metabolic health — heart surgery, nutrition, and what they both argue is wrong with the incentives in American healthcare.

At nearly fifteen minutes this is the longest conversation in the library, and the most substantive. Ovadia is a practising cardiothoracic surgeon whose central argument comes from the operating table: that the overwhelming majority of the patients he opens up were metabolically unwell for years beforehand, and that almost none of it was addressed while it was still reversible.

That is a stronger version of the case made throughout this campaign, and it comes from someone with direct clinical standing to make it. It is also, fairly noted, a position within an ongoing debate in cardiology and nutrition science rather than settled consensus — and it is offered here as the speakers' argument.
