CPB and Ricky: The SSRI Conversation
Aug 13, 2026
A conversation about SSRI prescribing and informed consent
Chris Brandlin and Ricky discuss SSRI prescribing patterns, discontinuation effects, and the questions they believe patients are not consistently offered before starting a prescription.
Their argument is about the quality of the conversation at the point of prescribing — how much time it gets, whether expected duration is discussed, and whether discontinuation is explained up front. They are not arguing that antidepressants do not work or that anyone should stop taking one.
This distinction is important enough to state directly: do not stop or change a psychiatric medication based on a video. SSRI discontinuation can produce real and sometimes severe symptoms, and it is managed with a prescriber, on a taper, not alone. If you are struggling, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call or text.
Presented here as the speakers' views on informed consent and prescribing practice. It is not medical advice, not a treatment recommendation, and not a claim about any specific medication or manufacturer.
