Why he calls it the ultimate crisis

Chris Brandlin argues that education is Nevada's defining crisis — and that the Assembly is where the decisions actually sit.

Nevada's persistent position near the bottom of national education rankings is the most cited statistic in state politics, and its durability across administrations of both parties is the strongest evidence that the causes are structural. Per-pupil funding, class sizes, teacher recruitment and retention, and graduation requirements are all set at state level.

Calling it the "ultimate" crisis is a claim about sequencing rather than exclusivity: that education outcomes propagate into workforce, health, and public-safety outcomes a decade or two later, which makes it the lever with the longest arm.
