Four hours of Saturday doorwalking across Assembly District 42 — Chris Brandlin meeting Spring Valley and Mountain's Edge voters at their doors.
Those two neighborhoods are a fair sample of what AD-42 actually is: master-planned southwest Las Vegas, heavily commuter, and largely unaccustomed to being canvassed at all in a district treated as decided. A significant share of doorstep conversations in a race like this begin with genuine surprise that anyone came.
Four hours is roughly a hundred doors, most of which do not open. The arithmetic is unforgiving, which is why the campaigns that do it consistently tend to be the ones that outperform expectations.
