Buying from Nevada butchers and ranchers

Chris Brandlin makes the case for buying from a local butcher shop and Nevada ranchers — better meat, and money that stays in the state.

Two arguments run alongside each other. The quality one is about the supply chain: a shorter path from processing to counter means fresher product and a butcher who can tell you where it came from. The economic one is about where the margin lands — fewer intermediaries between a rancher and a customer generally means more of the price reaching the person who raised the animal.

For a district where grocery cost is a live issue, that second argument is the campaign one. Money spent with a Nevada producer recirculates in Nevada in a way money spent with a national distributor does not.
