CPB and Parker on Lab Grown Meat

Food transparency and real ranching

Chris Brandlin and Casey Parker discuss cultivated meat — labelling, consumer transparency, and what the category means for conventional ranching.

At more than four minutes this is the longest treatment of the subject in the library, and the extra time is spent on the part short clips skip: that the arguments divide into three separable questions. Whether consumers can tell what they are buying is a labelling question. Whether ranchers can compete is an economic one. Whether the product is safe long-term is an evidentiary one with limited data either way. They can be answered differently.

Several states have taken up restrictions with different approaches. For the status of any specific Nevada measure rather than the debate around it, the bill text and history are published by the Nevada Legislature.
