Grip strength and lache work

Tuesday night on the obstacles — grip strength training and lache work from Chris Brandlin's Ninja Warrior sessions.

A lache is the swing-and-release between two bars, and it is the movement that separates people who can hang from people who can move. It requires generating swing from the hips, letting go at the top of the arc, and catching with a grip that has to be right the first time. There is no partial credit.

Grip is the honest bottleneck in all of it. It is also one of the few fitness markers that tracks meaningfully with long-term health outcomes, which makes it a reasonable thing to train even for people with no interest in obstacle courses.
