Nearly an hour on state-level health reform
Dr. Ken Berry and Chris Brandlin on improving health at the state level — the longest single piece in this library at close to an hour.
The format earns the length. An hour allows the argument to be qualified, challenged, and revised in real time, which is where the difference between a considered position and a talking point becomes visible. Berry is a practising family physician and an established voice in the low-carb and metabolic-health world, so the conversation is between two people who broadly agree — worth knowing when weighing it.
The central question is the one this campaign keeps returning to: how much of population health a state legislature can actually move, and through which levers. School food, physical education, Medicaid design, and licensing come up repeatedly because they are the answers.
Related: the conversation with Dr. Philip Ovadia, why health belongs to the states, and public health as the foundation.
