Learning to fly is an unusual hobby for a working attorney with a campaign schedule, mostly because it does not compress. Ground school, hours, checkrides and currency requirements all take the time they take, and none of it can be crammed into a spare weekend.
It belongs in the same category as the bull riding and the obstacle training: things undertaken because they are difficult, documented without much explanation.
